Another simple and yet a great idea for a wedding gift is to give the bride her bridal jewelry that she can also use at the wedding. You can ask the bride the type of wedding dress she will wear or if you have a chance to see the bride’s dress, the better. Then, choose the type of bridal jewelry you can buy for her. Unique Wedding Registry Ideas

October 22nd, 2008

If you’re like many couples just starting out, there are so many more things that you may need beyond the fifteenth casserole dish. Many couples use store bridal registries to help their guests find useful gifts. These are wonderful if the bride or groom never had their own home. Today, many people marry later in life and often have all they need for their home when they meet Mr. Right. It’s hard to tell someone, “Hey, I just want cash.” In fact, it’s rude. There are alternative methods that you can use to create your own bridal wedding registry that fits your needs and doesn’t make you look crass.

If the two of you want to buy a fixer upper and need additional tools or materials, a bridal registry set up at a home improvement store might be just what you need. You can go through the house that you plan to fix and look for items in different price ranges. A kitchen faucet, cabinet knobs or even hand tools for smaller gifts are all options. This type of registry might include the words, “Please help make our house a home” and a list of specific items with stock numbers could be included.

If you have enough pre-used furnishings from your parents or older siblings, you might consider very practical gifts if you start out short of funds. Think food as a starter. You can request frozen food, canned goods and other items to stock your kitchen. Gift cards form the local grocery store can fill in if someone wants an easy out. This type of registry allows you to put more of your money where you want it to go. It doesn’t ask for cash, instead it allows the guests to actually select a gift.

In the same vein of being practical, a prepaid utility credit also allows you to divert your funds in the direction you choose and yet lets the guests feel like they gave you something and not just cash. You need to discuss this with your utility company to also find out whether they allow another person to prepay your bill.

Jack and Jill Bridal Showers

October 20th, 2008

Many couples these days are choosing to have “Jack and Jill” bridal showers with both men and women in attendance. This can be a great way to get the groom and his friends in on the fun. You might want to do a few things differently in mixed company than you would for a ladies-only shower.

Choosing some exciting games is important as well when you’re having a co-ed bridal shower; however, you’ll want to make sure that the games are appropriate for a mixed crowd. Go with games that are great as icebreakers or even games that include trivia about the happy couple. For a great time, consider having games that make the women play against the men, which can be a whole lot of fun. Also, if your bride is a bit embarrassed about opening her wedding gifts in front of all the men, you can let them play games while the gifts are all being opened.

Of course the food is going to be an important choice as well. Make sure that you have plenty of food if you’re having the men come to the shower. Also, choose foods that both men and women are going to enjoy. Those cute little tea sandwiches may not be the best choice if you have men coming to the shower.

Planning a Wedding Based on Your Favorite Book

October 19th, 2008

If you always wanted to be a heroine in the great romance novel, use the theme of your favorite book for the wedding. The easiest of all themes is the period novel, but science fiction isn’t out of the question. Those that love Bram Stoker or Mary Shelly might find it is actually easier to present than even the romance novels.

Use the period that the book takes place as the theme for the wedding background. Perhaps you love “Little Women” by Louise May Alcott. Simply adopt the clothing of the day and focus on the mental image that you have when you read about Meg’s simple wedding to Mr. Brooks. Keep your wedding small and if possible in the home. An alternative to the home wedding is in a historical home or log cabin. Simplicity is elegance and stays with the story line. A meal served family style should follow the wedding.

There are ways to plan for those of you that simply love action. If your favorite book is the original novel “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, written by Campbell Black, then your theme is that of adventure. The typical wedding dress doesn’t fit the image for this novel. Marion, Jones’s love interest, is one tough cookie that can keep up with Indy.

Your wedding should have all the elements of the jungle with decorations that reflect the style of the book. Perhaps, the pith helmet wrapped with netting and a great train, topping the khaki outfit that matches the groom would be a fitting gown. Your flowers should be exotic, those of the dense jungle. Keep the theme throughout. Supply the reception with finger foods. Animal décor, like leopard colored tablecloths, and finger food that has a jungle theme carries the motif even further. Don’t forget to have background noises of the jungle and a huge ark to hold wedding gifts!
